The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), in cooperation with the Authority for Projects, Tenders, and Local Content, has today launched two public opinion surveys titled Measuring Public Awareness of Local Content. The surveys will target two distinct samples: one representing the general public and the other comprising employees in both the public and private sectors.
This initiative comes within the framework of national efforts to enhance in-country value (ICV) and support the economic and social objectives of Oman Vision 2040. Running until 27 August, the surveys aim to assess the level of understanding of the local content concept, gauge public and institutional engagement with policies supporting local products and national services, and explore factors influencing the preference for locally produced goods. They also seek to identify challenges faced by individuals and organizations in adopting this strategic direction.
The first survey will target Omani residents aged 18 years and above, assessing their awareness of key local content concepts such as employing the national workforce, using locally produced goods and services, knowledge transfer, and investment in national assets. It will also examine public attitudes toward Omani products, sources of information about local content, and willingness to pay higher prices for national products of equal quality.
The second survey will focus on Omani employees in sectors related to procurement, manufacturing, distribution, and commercial marketing. It will investigate the extent to which their organizations apply local content policies, purchasing priorities, challenges in dealing with small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and the benefits they gain from implementing local content in terms of institutional performance and sales growth.
