Joint meeting reviews development projects in Dhofar Governorate



A number of officials have reviewed the progress of development projects in Dhofar Governorate as part of the Governorate Development Program. During the visit, His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, met with His Excellency Dr. Said bin Mohammed Al-Saqri, Minister of Economy, and His Excellency Engineer Badr bin Salem Al-Mamari, Secretary-General of the Tender Board, to discuss the requirements of priority development projects and those that leverage the comparative and competitive advantages in Dhofar. They also aimed to support local development efforts targeting vital sectors in line with national plans and programs, particularly Vision "Oman 2040" and the strategic programs of the Tenth Five-Year Plan.

During the meeting, His Highness the Governor emphasized the importance of integrating and coordinating roles and performance between Dhofar Governorate, the Ministry of Economy, and various relevant entities to enhance the system of development projects in the governorate. He stressed the need to empower supervising entities and institutions to execute and achieve results according to mechanisms that yield the highest performance and competitiveness indicators. He noted that the governorate possesses many unique comparative advantages and environmental diversity that require enhancement, development, and support.

Several introductory presentations were made regarding the mechanisms and systems of strategic, economic, planning, and developmental performance in various sectors. Engineer Badr bin Salem Al-Ma'amari presented on the importance of local content, its expected impact, and the roles and responsibilities of the National Local Content Office.

Sheikh Said bin Rashid Al-Qutbi, Director General of Social Sectors at the Ministry of Economy, delivered a second presentation on the comparative advantages and economic specialization in governorate development projects, particularly in Dhofar, emphasizing its significance, the measurement of its economic and developmental impact, and investment opportunities.

Dr. Saud bin Mohammed Al-Farsi, Advisor to the Governor of Dhofar, presented on the comprehensive strategy project for Dhofar, outlining the work stages, methodology, and the expected launch date of the project.

Additional presentations were provided by relevant entities in the governorate. The Dhofar Municipality presented on local development projects and infrastructure, including the Al-Hafah development project. The Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries, and Water Resources presented on the Wadi Anhar dam project and the coastal protections at Salalah Port, while the Ministry of Health discussed the new Qaboos Hospital project. The Oman Investment Authority presented projects from Oman Palm Development Company.

The Office for Developing the Najd Agricultural Area discussed Najd farms, while the Public Authority for Industrial Estates (Madayn) presented on the expansion of the Raysut Industrial Area, and Salalah Port discussed its expansion project and coastal protections. The General Directorate of Housing and Urban Planning presented its planning projects aligned with developmental projects in the governorate.

Moreover, officials from the Ministry of Economy conducted field visits to several development projects in Dhofar, including the new Sultan Qaboos Hospital, the Wadi Anhar dam, the Raysut Industrial Area, the Salalah Free Zone, the expansion project at Salalah Port, and coastal protections for the port.
