Fifty engineers graduate from Emkan Programme

The Secretariat General of Tender Board celebrated the graduation of the inaugural batch of the Emkan programme on Tuesday. Fifty engineers from different government agencies enrolled for the first batch of the programme designed to develop personnel engaged in government projects and contracts. 

The six-month programme aimed to enhance engineers' efficiency in managing and improving government projects and contracts, establish a highly effective professional work system, foster local value creation, and set clear technical evaluation standards for contract and project management divisions.

The graduation ceremony was held under the patronage of H E Said bin Hamood bin Said al Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.

On the occasion, Badr bin Salem al Mamari, Secretary-General of Tender Board, said, “The programme has effectively achieved several goals, notably empowering engineers from diverse organisations to oversee government projects and contracts. I am confident that participating engineers will share their successful experiences with colleagues across sectors to advance the programme's objectives."

He announced the imminent launch of the programme's second phase this year, encompassing 120 engineers from 13 government agencies. This phase aims to integrate the programme with updated project management standards and procedures.

Abdullah al Hosni, Advisor at Secretariat General of Tender Bo-ard, said, “Emkan is a pivotal initiative aimed at advancing professional development of personnel involved in contract, project and tender management in government agencies. Its goal is to develop competitive national expertise that meets global standards."

He informed that the programme curriculum includes challenges affecting contracts and projects, such as project delays, change orders and implementation period extensions.​
